Size inclusivity: a journey

Me&B in a nutshell

We like to think of ourselves as a local brand with a global focus. Me&B works hard with the local communities to create garments that fit like a dream and make our customers feel like the best version of themselves. The very essence of our brand lies in the idea that fashion is truly for everyone, no matter your size, style, identity - we’re about embracing it all!

We’re not here to change the identities of our customers to fit into some stock standard ideal, instead our team is all about ensuring that customers can find garments that reignite the joy that we know clothing can bring. Our ranges are centered around the idea that fashion is fun, so while we produce incredible basics, we are also focused on creating those sizzle pieces that you won’t find anywhere else and add that something extra to your wardrobe whether that’s a fun print, interesting silhouette or bold colour.

Our approach to sizing

We’re really passionate about size-inclusivity and women’s shapes, so from our fit meetings to our marketing efforts we are constantly thinking about how a particular decision will impact a customer on either end of the size spectrum.

Fit is incredibly important to the brand. What most people don’t know is that all our fit meetings include a size 34 and a size 44, we conduct the meetings on our mannequins AND staff members who chat through how the garment actually feels. This process helps us ensure that both ends of the sizing spectrum are catered to and cared for. We’re fanatical about offering garments that are not only fun and stylish, but also that fit the body really well.

We’ve taken this approach because we feel that women who struggle to find their size are often forced to wear more toned down, ‘boring’ looks and aren’t able to fully express themselves.

We cater to a wider range than most, so our current ranges are available in full size curve from 32 to 46.

Why size inclusivity matters

The clothing industry can be incredibly exclusionary, if you don’t fit into the stock standard ideal that has been set out the options are limited, and in our opinion often quite lackluster. We’re real women, with bodies that don’t always align with the ‘sizing standard’ of stores, so we know how hard it can be to feel like you’ve been cast aside or excluded because you can’t find clothes that not only fit your actual body but also your identity. We want to be a safe space where women can find beautiful clothes, within an affordable price range that actually fit them.

We’ve gone one step further than offering a more inclusive size range, we offer a tailoring service to our customers. This service not only helps us alter sizing, but also aspects of garments like amending the height of pants for example. Making these changes within the brand has been a great avenue for us to show our customers that we care about creating clothes that make them feel like an elevated version of themselves.

Size inclusivity, a journey not a destination

While the industry has come a long way there is still so far to go! So many brands don’t have the ability, or the inclination, to offer a wider size range and it’s really hard in a country like South Africa where there are so many different bodies. We’re feeling really positive about the direction that the industry is taking, whether it's seeing a diverse range of bodies on runways and in advertisements or brands expanding their sizing ranges, overall we are really excited to see size-inclusivity become the standard, not the exception.
